This is the first of a project series that I am doing with the UMD cycling team in College Park, MD. I'll be following them documenting their 2017 season.
The team gathered on an early Saturday morning in front of the Stamp Student Union. It would be the last training ride before the team's first collegiate race at North Carolina State University. Everyone listens to the team's coach Joshua Spoke for the day's agenda before rolling out.
With campus located in the city, there's a bit of traversing through the suburbs neighborhood roads and traffic before you get to more open roads. It's generally a safe ride with plenty of bike paths and lanes to get you to the good stuff.
Once you get out of the city and heading towards Bowie, MD you're greeted with some really great roads. Wide open roads, good amount of shoulder and some scenic farmlands.
Practice Makes Perfect
The guys make to the Paxuxent Research Refuge loop which about a 2-3 mile enclosed loop with barely any cars. This makes the perfect course to practice race tactics, pack riding, hand offs or just really hard intervals.
Two of the team sponsors Arrow Bicycle and District Taco
Good luck to the guys this season!
